My Sharona" /ʃəˈroʊnə/ is the debut single by the Knack. The song was written by Berton Averre and Doug Fieger, and released in 1979 from their album Get the Knack. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart where it remained for 6 weeks, and was number one on Billboard's 1979 Top Pop Singles year-end chart

Sharona is a Hebrew and poetic name that in the time I was born was pretty popular in Israel. It means "plain landform," and is the name of an area a few miles north of Tel Aviv. My mother called me Sharona because of a children's story from her childhood which she liked about a young girl, Sharona who picked oranges in that part of the country. A few months after I was born we immigrated to New York and that is where I lived most of my life. Dennis from Anchorage, AkThe Knack was actually not a one-hit wonder. They were a two-hit wonder. Their first album also contained the song "Good Girls Don't (But I Do) which was even naughtier than My Sharona. Their second album tanked after the single "Baby Talks Dirty" flopped; it sounded too much like a watered-down My Sharona. Johnny from Los Angeles, CaMarina from Seattle, that is so funny!

Produced by Mike Chapman. Ooh, my little pretty one, pretty one When you gonna give me some time, Sharona? Ooh, you make my motor run, my motor run Gun it coming off of the line, Sharona. Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind My, my, my, I, yi, woo! M-m-m-my Sharona. Come a little closer, huh, ah, will ya, huh? Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona Keeping it a mystery gets to me Running down the length of my thighs, Sharona

Listen to the Knack's 'My Sharona'. In early 1979, the band entered the studio with producer Mike Chapman to begin work on their debut. Get the Knack was wrapped up in less than two weeks. Elsewhere, Get the Knack is full of top shelf, hook-laden rockers. Let Me Out" remains one of the most powerful album openers ever, while "Your Number or Your Name" and "Oh Tara" are pure pop gold, recalling mid-'60s Hollies and Kinks. She's So Selfish" and "Good Girls Don't," the album's second single, were both full of words that wouldn't fly past radio censors.
