The Lum and Abner show was fifteen minutes that took us to back to the feeling of a rural America before music, radio and such made peace and quiet seem downright odd. For a general store, the "Jot 'em Down" was rarely bustling, so the silence was taken up with the events of the moment. Intro music sets the stage, and we might be sitting by the cracker barrel, ready to "ketch up" on what Lum or Abner are up t. quick scan of the show titles tells you this show was filled with funny episodes. It was, and some developed over days or even weeks. Amos and Andy, as played.

Lum and Abner, The Adventures of two small town shop keepers in the Town of Pine Ridge Arkansas Lum and Abner were Broadcast from 1931 until 1954. Lauck and Goff had known each other since childhood and attended the University of Arkansas together (joining the Sigma Chi Fraternity together while there). They performed locally and established a blackface act which led to an audition at radio station KTHS in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Prior to the audition, the two men decided to change their act and portray two hillbillies, since there were already an overabundance of blackface acts at the time

Announced by Ken Carpenter. With Jud Conlon’s Rhythmaires and Lum ‘N’ Abner (Chester Lauch and Norris Goff). Announced by Ken Carpenter.

Lum and Abner was characterized by the snappy, verbal comedic dueling that became popular on radio programs of the 1930s. Using this format, Lauck and Goff allowed their characters to subvert traditional authority and to poke fun at common misconceptions about rural life. The show also featured hillbilly and other popular music, an innovation that drew a bigger audience.
